Romtelecom representatives, Mr. Yorgos Ioannidis, CEO of Romtelecom and Mr. Catalin Dima, Chief Legal & Corporate Affairs Officer, met today with Mr. Calin Popescu Tariceanu, Prime Minister of the Romanian Government, who was accompanied by Mr. Zsolt Nagy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and other representatives of the Government.

During the meeting, the management of Romtelecom presented the company’s plans to invest more than half a billion Euros in the Next Generation/Broadband Network, which would allow its customers to benefit from state-of-the-art Internet access, multimedia content and telephony services, at more competitive prices.

These investments will be made entirely from the company’s own funds. In order to implement such an investment plan, Romtelecom explained the importance of a fair and predictable regulatory framework that would allow to company to achieve a return on its planned investments.

Furthermore, during the next period of time, the company will present the Government detailed information about its ability to ensure Internet access to schools in Romania (following the implementation of its investments plan), so that the Government will be able to assess whether it will be needed to develop special projects whereby the Government would ensure the access to internet for all schools in Romania.
